Bill Split Calculator

Enter the total and tip, set how many people, then name each person and their share weight.

Grand total
Tip amount—
Share weights are relative ratios, not percentages — 2 : 1 : 1 is fine. Leave a name blank if you only care about amounts.

Split a bill unevenly

Even splits fail when one person ordered bottles and another had a starter only. Enter the bill total and tip percent, set how many people are splitting, then give each person an optional name and a share weight — for example 2 : 1 : 1. Each person pays grand total × (their weight ÷ sum of weights). Tip is applied to the whole bill before weighting so the tip follows the same proportions. Add or remove people as the table grows; equal weights mean an even split. For a classic even tip-and-split use the tip and split tool; for ongoing shared house costs see shared expense.

Worked example

£86.40 + 12.5% tip ≈ £97.20 grand. Three people with weights 2, 1, 1 → shares £48.60, £24.30, £24.30.

Limits and assumptions

Up to twelve people. Does not itemise tax lines separately from tip. Currency formatting follows site preferences.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add people?

Set Number of people, or use + Add person. Each row gets a name (optional) and a share weight.

Do weights have to be whole numbers?

No — 1.5 and 1 work fine. They are relative ratios, not percentages.

What if someone pays the tip only?

Set their weight to cover the tip portion you agree, or settle the tip outside the weighted split.

Can I split without a tip?

Set tip to 0%.

Why not percentages that sum to 100?

Weights are easier at the table; the tool normalises them automatically.
