Photo Crop Calculator
Enter original width and height plus a target aspect (preset or W:H) to see centered crop size.
What size should I crop to?
Centered crops lock an aspect ratio inside an existing pixel frame. Choose a preset such as 16:9 or 1:1, or enter a custom width:height ratio; the tool shrinks whichever dimension is too long so the crop matches the target ratio, then reports left and top offsets for a centered rectangle. Use it to pre-plan exports for social frames, print labs or video stills without opening an editor. It does not resample — output sizes are integer pixel crops of the original. Related ratio helpers live in aspect ratio and platform sizes in social media image size.
Worked example
4000×3000 toward 16:9 is narrower than 16:9, so crop width stays 4000 px and height becomes floor(4000 × 9/16) = 2250 px, centered with a 375 px top/bottom offset.
Limits and assumptions
Always fits inside the original (never upscales). Subject-aware crops may want non-centered offsets.
Frequently asked questions
What is an aspect ratio?
The proportional relationship between width and height (for example 16:9). Cropping to a ratio changes pixel dimensions but keeps that proportion.
Why is the crop sometimes shorter than the original on both sides?
Only one dimension is reduced; the other matches the original. Offsets show how much is trimmed on the long sides.
Custom 5:4 versus preset 4:3?
Use custom W:H when presets do not match your target.
Does this change resolution for print?
It only sets crop pixels; DPI and print size are separate — see print-oriented tools if you need physical dimensions.
